Police update: Fatal hit and run at Mackay

A man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death after a 35-year-old man was struck by a car at Mackay on October 28.

Just after 4am, a stolen grey Toyota RAV4 was travelling north along the Bruce Highway when it collided with the man working on the Ron Camm Bridge.

Members of the community rendered first aid to the man, however he died on scene.

The stolen vehicle was found at Petrie Street around an hour later, and a 28-year-old man was taken into custody not long after.

The man has since been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of driving unlicensed and one count of burglary,

He is due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court tomorrow (October 29).
