Police update: Man charged after carjacking incident

A 19 year old Clarendon Vale man has today been formally charged in relation to an incident about 1.30pm yesterday, where it is alleged a taxi was stolen after the driver was threatened with a knife in Rokeby.

The man was arrested after the taxi crashed on the Tasman Highway in Mornington.

He has today been charged with multiple offences including aggravated carjacking, evade police and dangerous driving.

The man remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the Hobart Magistrate’s Court this evening.

Members of the public have already contacted police to provide information, however detectives are still keen to hear from anyone who saw, or has dash-cam footage of, a red Toyota Camry sedan with a taxi light on its roof being driven in the area about 1.30pm yesterday.
