Port Broughton to receive sports funding boost

The Marshall Liberal Government has today announced a significant funding injection into grassroots sport in Narungga.

The Port Broughton Combined Sports Clubs, in the state electorate of Narungga, will receive a $350,000 grant through Round One of the Grassroots Football, Cricket and Netball Facility Program (The Grassroots Program).

The funding is part of a Marshall Liberal Government commitment to unlock up to $24 million for grassroots sports across South Australia.

The funding injection through the Grassroots Program will be used to upgrade existing rundown facilities in Port Broughton and it’s an upgrade that is very well-deserved according to the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing Corey Wingard MP.

“The Marshall Liberal Government is building sport in South Australia and our regions are a vital part of this,” said Minister Wingard.

“The Grassroots Program is delivering $350,000 to build new comprehensive modular family-friendly change rooms at the Port Broughton Combined Sport Clubs.

“The facilities in Port Broughton were in need of an upgrade and we’re proud to be delivering for the sporting community in Narungga.”

Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis MP said he previously met with representatives from the Port Broughton sporting community during the state election campaign in 2018 and heard firsthand about their longstanding concerns about the facilities.

“This grant will help replace ancient, cramped change rooms with a brand new modular building,” said Mr Ellis.

“Best of all, this facility will be family-friendly and allow athletes of different genders to compete in their favourite sports.

“This is great news for the Port Broughton area, and wider community in Narungga, after years of craving support for the facility under the previous government.

“It’s great to see the Marshall Liberal Government deliver for the sporting community in the electorate.”
