Premier failing public sector workers 05 July 2023

Tas Labor

Premier Jeremy Rockliff is failing in his duty of care to protect and provide a safe workplace for public sector workers.

The serious issues around discrimination, bulling and sexual harassment are not new to the Premier and his minority Liberal Government, having been highlighted for a number of years.

Instead of listening to workers and taking these concerns seriously, Premier Rockliff has done nothing to foster a safe working environment.

Labor has previously called for the investigation into workplace culture in the review into Tasmanian Ministerial and Parliamentary Services conducted by the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, which led to the comprehensive Motion for Respect Report, to be extended into the whole public service, and I make this call again today.

Every person working in the state’s public service deserves to be safe at work, respected and supported to reach their potential.

Looking after workers is in Labor’s DNA. A Labor Government would ensure that Tasmania’s public servants are heard, protected and provided with a safe working environment.
