Premier’s jobs for mates are costing Tasmanians

Tasmanian Labor

As Tasmanians look down the barrel of a cost of living crisis, Right to Information documents show that the Liberal Government is willing to loosen the purse strings to help their mates.

Information into the appointment of Business Tasmania Executive Director Jenna Cairney in December last year, shows that the role for the Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s former spin doctor was significantly reclassified up to a senior executive level.

Once appointed, a special exemption was then sought to pay Ms Cairney at least $25,000 above the base salary of $166,467.

The RTI also highlights the Premier’s knowledge of the job before it went to Cabinet. Did the Premier declare a conflict of interest about this appointment?

This Liberal Government continues to treat and use taxpayer money as if it’s their own. Hundreds of pages of black ink does not hide the fact.

No wonder the Liberal Government will bring down the biggest Budget deficit in history this year on the way to record debt of over $5 billion.

Labor would end the waste and special deals for mates and ensure all financial decisions follow proper budget and parliamentary process.
