Prescribed ecological burn at Kenny

A prescribed ecological burn will be conducted at Kenny today, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions.

The prescribed ecological burn at Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve is being conducted to decrease weeds and exotic grass, and improve the soil in the Yellow Box Red Gum Woodland.

See the location map of the burn site.

Experienced ACT Parks and Conservation fire managers will conduct and oversee the burning operations. Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and may be visible across parts of Canberra.

A buffer zone will be created around the perimeter of the prescribed ecological burns to manage it to its conclusion.

Some minor smoke and glowing embers may be seen at this site, which is normal for these types of operations. The public are asked not to call emergency triple-zero unless they see any unattended fire.

Prescribed burns are an important part of the ACT’s annual Bushfire Operations Plan to reduce the risk of bushfires and help keep Canberrans safe.
