A Victorian program where incarcerated people study a subject on crime and justice together with students from RMIT University has been recognised for its positive impact.
RMIT’s Inside-Out program with Corrections Victoria just passed its 10-year milestone with 1,000 students through the program. It has now been announced as a finalist in Universities Australia’s Shaping Australia Awards, in the Future Builders category.
The unique program brings students together for two hours a week over 12 weeks to study a subject titled Comparative Criminal Justice Systems, and was introduced to Victorian prisons in 2015 by Associate Professor Marietta Martinovic, in partnership with Corrections Victoria.
