The development of two new sand groynes on Brighton beach has been completed by the City of Holdfast Bay.
Working in conjunction with the Coast Protection Board, 100 sand bags were installed to create two new groynes that aim to widen the beach for community use and assist with coastal protection.
City of Holdfast Bay Mayor, Amanda Wilson, said:
“We are blessed with having 11km of stunning, accessible beaches along our coastline.
“The City of Holdfast Bay is committed to protecting and enhancing our prized beaches and projects such as this to enhance beach widths are an important part of that work.”
The groynes are designed to improve sand retention along the Brighton section of the foreshore.
The two new sand groynes are part of a project to install a total of nine groynes along Brighton beach. Two were installed in 2018, with the remaining five to be installed at a later date.
