Over $1.4 million has been allocated to emergency food organisations across the state as part of the Tasmanian Government’s response to supporting those in need during COVID-19.
We know that the pandemic had led to significant increases in the delivery of produce, hampers, and ready to eat meals to Tasmanians through our regular contact with organisations.
That’s why we are investing an additional $400,000 in our key emergency food relief providers to ensure there is a continuation of food provision to those in need including:
- $144,000 to Hamlet;
- $100,000 to Foodbank Tasmania; and
- $156 000 to Devonport Chaplaincy (Loaves & Fishes Tasmania).
This is delivering on one of the PESRAC Report Recommendations, which was to monitor use of our initial $800,000 emergency food relief funding and to rapidly respond if further additional funding is needed.
With the inclusion of our small grants round of over $200,000, this will equate to over $1.4 million in funding we have provided for emergency food relief in response to the pandemic.
The Tasmanian Government’s number one priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of all Tasmanians as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
I thank all in the community sector for working together to co-ordinate the production and delivery of this food for Tasmanians in need.
