Providing more Tasmanians with Ticket to Play

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working to get more young Tasmanians active.

We have delivered on our 2021 election commitment to double the value of our Ticket to Play Program and are providing $200 in vouchers to help eligible children become involved in sports and activities by investing an additional $3 million over three years.

I’m pleased to advise that since re-launching the Program for 2021-22 in July, 2,870 vouchers have been issued.

The vouchers can be used to reduce the cost of a child’s registration at more than 800 approved activity providers around the State.

The highest number of vouchers to date have been redeemed for gymnastics, scouts, football, little athletics and basketball.

Applications for and use of vouchers is expected to accelerate as the summer sporting season registrations increase.

Cost is one of the major barriers to children playing organised sport and Ticket to Play is increasing the number of young Tasmanians playing sport by breaking down that barrier.
