A man has been charged after allegedly exceeding the speed limit by more than 80km/h during a pursuit in Sydney’s south west yesterday.
Just before 9.30pm (Wednesday 8 April 2020), officers from Bankstown Traffic and Highway Patrol allegedly detected a vehicle travelling 91km/h in a signposted 60km/h zone on Waterloo Road, Greenacre.
Police will allege when they stopped the vehicle on Noble Avenue and approached it, the Mercedes A250 drove off.
A pursuit was initiated, with the Mercedes allegedly reaching speeds of up to 145km/h. It came to a stop a short time later after mounting a curb on Norfolk Street.
The provisional driver, a 19-year-old Casula man, was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.
A passenger in the vehicle fled the scene on foot and was last seen running east towards Roberts Road. A perimeter was established, with assistance from PolAir and the Dog Unit, but the person was not located.
Upon a search of the vehicle, police located two containers containing oxandrolone (steroids), which were seized for forensic examination.
The man was charged with class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/h, class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 20km/h and police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously. His licence was also suspended.
He was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 9 April 2020).
