PSQ State Titles Given Second Chance

With competition being postponed due to an August lockdown, competitors were able to come together at the Brisbane International Shooting Centre over the weekend to participate in the Pistol Shooting Queensland (PSQ) State Titles. Bruce Dimond was the one to watch as he found some great form throughout the weekend.

Competitors from far North Queensland towns of Mackay and Rockhampton, as well as competitors from Western Australia and Victoria all joined the competition remotely thanks to the efforts of the PSQ Team, ensuring that even those who couldn’t travel to Brisbane would be able to join in the competition.

The action kicked off on Friday with the 50m Pistol event where Bruce Dimond scored 503-3x to become the State Champion, with Steven Fascia and Julie Dunks scoring 493-0x and 488-2x respectively to take second and third place. This was followed up by the Men’s 25m Center Fire Pistol event where, once again, Bruce Dimond outshot the competition with a score of 557-9x to become the State Champion, with Wayne Hartley scoring 551-10x for second, and Steven Fascia scoring 551-8x to take third place.

The Women’s 10m Air Pistol kicked off Saturday’s events where a new face became State Champion for the first time, with Wendy Law scoring 223.6 in the final to take first place, Marie Kent scoring 220.5 to take second, and Civon Smith scoring 204.0 for third place.

This was followed up by the 25m Rapid Fire final, where Chris Mamouzelos became the State Champion with a final’s score of 19 points, with Bruce Dimond scoring 14 points and taking second place, and Christopher Bouchaud scoring 7 points and taking third.

25m Standard Pistol finished the competition on Saturday and Bruce Dimond put in another great performance scoring 566-9x to become State Champion, with Lynn Thomas and Leo Greening scoring 519-6x and 518-2x to take second and third place.

On the final day, it was the Women’s 25m Pistol that kicked off the action, with Civon Smith scoring 29 points in the final to become State Champion, with Lisa Laffy who was competing from Mackay scoring 17 points to take second place, and Lynn Thomas just one point behind Lisa with 16 took third place.

The final event of the PSQ State Titles was the Men’s 10m Air Pistol, where Bailey Groves competing from WA scored 237.6 in the final to become the State Champion, with Bruce Dimond scoring 230.0 to take second place, and Xiang Wang scoring 207.4 to take third place.

The PSQ State titles also saw the introduction of the 50m Supported Rest to their State Championships, where Larry Dunks became the inaugural State Champion.

The PSQ State Titles showed just how keen the community is for high quality, well attended domestic competitions. The team at PSQ worked tirelessly to ensure as many competitors from interstate would be able to compete in the State Titles, with some even making the podium. Overall, the event was a great success! Keep an eye on the PSQ website as they plan to schedule more events before the end of the year.
