Public appeal: Grievous bodily harm, Surfers Paradise 13 July

Police have released footage of a man as part of the investigation into the grievous bodily harm of a 33-year-old man at Surfers Paradise last month.

Around 6pm on Friday June 10, a 33-year-old Bli Bli man was walking through a Cavil Avenue undercover shopping mall when a man who was not known to him – accompanied by woman and two young girls – approached him and made verbal taunts which quickly turned physical.

During the assault, which took place outside a grocery store, the man wrestled the 33-year-old to the ground, kneed him and struck him on the face multiple times.

Multiple bystanders and staff from the grocery store came to the 33-year-old’s aid, while the group fled on foot to an underground car park, possibly leaving in a black utility.

The 33-year-old sustained a broken nose and eye-socket and was transported to hospital where he underwent surgery.

Detectives are now appealing to the public for assistance to identify the man described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his thirties, with short light brown hair with blonde streaks and a brown handlebar moustache.

He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, black torn jeans and white sneakers, with a black bag worn across his body. The man removed his hoodie immediately after the assault, revealing a large upper arm tattoo.

Investigators are appealing to anyone with information to come forward, anonymous reports can be made.
