Public Feedback Sought on Review of ICAC Act

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is seeking public feedback on the Review of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Act 2017.

A review was conducted by Mr Greg Shanahan PSM last year to identify improvements to the legislation, after three years of operation.

Public feedback is now being sought on the review’s Discussion Paper prior to implementing any recommendations.

The Territory Labor Government established the ICAC to restore trust to the Territory and ensure integrity to our public institutions after coming to Government in 2016.

The Discussion Paper seeks to discuss reform options and obtain public feedback about reform areas identified in the initial review.

These include ICAC enforcement powers and other operational matters; Journalist Shield laws; Whistleblowers and Witnesses, and Jurisdiction of the ICAC.

Feedback can be provided on the Have Your Say website here to inform the proposed recommendations to the ICAC Act.

The deadline for submitting feedback is 25 February 2022.

All public responses are confidential and will be considered. Any additional work in relation to specific matters or proposed areas for reform will be progressed through a draft exposure bill available for a second round of public comment later this year.
