Public Safety Incident at Windsor

Just after 11am today, police were called to a traffic bay on the Port Wakefield Highway at Windsor after reports of a man threatening another motorist.

A 44 year old man from no fixed address allegedly threatened a member of the public with an axe before retreating to his caravan. The two people were not known to each other and there were no injuries to either person.

Police arrived on scene and called STAR Group and negotiators to the scene.

After lengthy negotiations, Port Wakefield Highway was closed for a short time this afternoon while STAR Group arrested the man.

He is currently being detained and will have a mental health assessment. Following that time, he is expected to be charged with serious offences.

Port Wakefield Highway has now reopened.
