QCS welcomes more new officers

A class of 13 new custodial officers graduated from the Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) Academy in Wacol yesterday.

Minister for Corrective Services Mark Ryan congratulated the newest graduates and welcomed them to the QCS workforce.

“These graduates are well prepared to enter some of the most modern and technologically advanced correctional centres in the country,” Mr Ryan said.

“They’re joining a workforce which is doing an excellent job in an often under-recognised field.

“The role of a custodial correctional officer is a critical one, and I commend them for choosing a career dedicated to keeping Queenslanders safe.”

Nine of the new graduates will begin their careers at Woodford Correctional Centre, while four will be starting at Wolston Correctional Centre.

The ceremony also celebrated the awarding of a Diploma of Correctional Administration to a community corrections officer.

QCS Deputy Commissioner James Koulouris congratulated the graduates on successfully completing the entry program.

“I have the upmost respect for all our officers working in the correctional system. They are impressive individuals and I welcome them all to the QCS family.”

The Palaszczuk Government is currently recruiting hundreds of Queenslanders for jobs in QCS this financial year.
