Heavy penalties will apply for deliberately coughing, sneezing or spitting on officials and workers, as three new cases are confirmed, and the number of tests approaches 100,000.
There are now 101 active cases with 926 recoveries and six deaths for a total of 1033.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the figures were excellent news.
“That’s the sort of statistics we want to be seeing into the future which has allowed us to make the decision to lift some of the restrictions from the weekend,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“Today, with a new Public Health Direction, we are clamping down on anyone who deliberately coughs, sneezes or spits on public officials and workers.
“We don’t want people harassing them and causing them distress in the workplace.”
The direction allows for a $1,335 immediate fine or a court ordered penalty of up to $13,345.
Also today:
- The Premier said the COVIDSafe app would help track contact during the pandemic.
“It’s really important if we want to see our life return to some form of normality, especially down the track when we look at opening up different areas,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
- The State Disaster Co-ordinator said there would be more messaging later in the week about the social distancing that will still apply after some recreation restrictions are lifted.
He also said there were 114 penalty infringement notices over the weekend.
“What’s disappointing about these is we’re seeing too many people having parties. That’s really not acceptable. Now is not the time to undo all the good work,” he said.
