Only four new cases of COVID-19 have been announced since last weekend, with none today, as drivers are urged to take care when some restrictions ease from Saturday.
There are now 84 active cases, 943 recovered and six deaths for a total of 1033.
Three new cases were announced on Monday, none on Tuesday, one yesterday and none today.
It’s further reason that coronavirus travel restrictions will ease this long weekend – but that also means drivers should be more careful on the roads.
Although traffic on major highways has been down by more than 30 per cent during restrictions, more lives (68) have been lost so far this year than the same time last year (60).
So police will increase speed detection activities including random speed cameras and proactive patrols.
From Saturday, people may leave home for recreation – e.g. a picnic, or shopping for clothes – provided they:
- stay within 50km of home
- practise social distancing
- are with only their household OR one other person.
