Qld COVID-19 – Tue May 5: Economic resumption planning continues

Planning continues for the resumption of hospitality and tourism business activity, as Queensland’s COVID-19 curve stays flat with five more cases confirmed.

There are now 57 active cases, 980 recovered and six deaths for a total of 1043.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said three of the additional cases were older cases coming to light from interstate statistics.

“We’re flattening the curve, thank you Queensland for all you’re doing,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“Now it’s important that once we have settled our plan for schools, we can focus on our plan for Queensland’s economic recovery, including jobs.

“This week we’ll speak with café and restaurant owners, and tourism operators as well, to put in place our clear road map to recovery, to look at what mechanisms need to be in place – COVID-safe plans – for different types of accommodation and venues.”

As well as the economy, attention is also on social issues such as domestic and family violence, with a virtual summit being held tomorrow.

The $1 billion Pacific Motorway upgrade from Varsity Lakes to Tugun has been fast-tracked to bust congestion and create jobs to help in the recovery from COVID-19.

“That’s hundreds of jobs for the Gold Coast but we are looking at recovery plans across Queensland, especially regional Queensland as well as the south-east,” the Premier said.

Thousands have enrolled in free TAFE courses offered via the COVID-19 Jobs Portal.
Irrigation prices will be frozen for a year to help farmers through the COVID-19 crisis.
Deliveroo will offer commission fee relief for takeaway deliveries and pick-ups.
