More investment in regional infrastructure has been announced to further boost Queensland’s COVID-19 economic reset, as one new case and one more recovery are added to the health figures.
There are now 12 active cases, 1040 recovered and six deaths for a total of 1058.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said yesterday was a record testing day, with almost 5,000 samples tested.
The Chief Health Officer added that there was capacity for 10,000 tests per day.
“We must open up our economy to the fullest extent possible as we go forward, but we can only do that if we manage the cases that we have, and we can only manage them if we know about them,” she said.
Ms Palaszczuk followed up yesterday’s Unite and Recover strategy by unveiling Round 5 of the $365 million Building Our Regions program, with 48 new projects in 39 council areas.
“We’re working with councils, just as we’re working with the private sector,” she said.
“Together we will reset, recover and reinvigorate our strong economy for the future.”

“Our older citizens have done a fantastic job, but they have been isolated – and we need to slowly but carefully have people come out and mingle in society,” she said.
“Maintain that 1.5 metre distance, and of course, get tested if you have any symptoms. But this is a time for people to start engaging with other people, but in a very, very safe manner.”
