QPS officers and staff members honoured at awards ceremony

Member for Mackay and Assistant Minister for State Development Julieanne Gilbert MP on behalf of Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services the Honourable Mark Ryan MP joined Acting Deputy Commissioner Mike Condon yesterday to recognise Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers and staff members for their contributions to the service.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Condon assisted Assistant Commissioner Clem O’Regan with the presentation of the awards for a range of levels of service and achievement.




The National Police Service Medal, recognising a police officer’s past and future commitment to give ethical and diligent service was awarded to Senior Sergeant Jennifer Smith, Sergeant Timothy Nelson, Sergeant Tania Spiteri, Sergeant Camellia Tibbett, Senior Constable David Burton, Senior Constable Liam Henry, Senior Constable Shelley Laird and Senior Constable Karl Verri.

Sergeant Spiteri, Sergeant Verri, Senior Constable Henry and Senior Constable Laird were also awarded the National Medal for recognition of long service in an organisation that protects life and property at a risk to its members.




First Clasps to the National Medal were awarded to Senior Constable Burton and Senior Constable Donna Hill for an additional 10-year period of qualifying service.

Queensland Police Service Medals (QPSM) were awarded to Sergeant Jason Colley, Sergeant Daniel Goldburg, Sergeant Luke Scells, Senior Constable David McQuade, Police Liaison Officer (PLO) Darryl Paul and Ms Wendy Sinclair.

Clasps to the QPSM are awarded to those with more than 15 years of service.




Fifteen Year Clasps to the QPSM were presented to Senior Sergeant Smith, Senior Constable Burton, Senior Constable Jemal Hall and Senior Constable Craig Sinclair.

Twenty Year Clasps to the QPSM were presented to Senior Sergeant Smith, Senior Constable Hill, Senior Constable Jason Kreymborg, PLO Stacey Quakawoot and Ms Kim Bennion.

A Twenty-five Year Clasp to the QPSM was presented to Mrs Kim O’Riely.

Thirty Year Clasps to the QPSM were awarded to Senior Sergeant Karl Brazier and Mrs O’Riely.





Sergeant William Atwood, Senior Constable Kimberley Murphy and Constable Patrick Haughton received the QP Valour Medal and Certificate for showing exceptional bravery in hazardous circumstances.

Sergeant Nigel Dalton was awarded the Adopt-A-Cop District Award for his tremendous work that he does in school communities.





Acting Deputy Commissioner Condon said he was pleased to see so many officers recognised for their achievements.

“It is wonderful that we are able to formally acknowledge and congratulate our fellow officers for their hard work and commitment to the service,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Condon said.

“It is another proud day for the Mackay District and I congratulate everyone who received an award.”
