Quarantine Breach – AFL Accommodation Hub

WA Police Force is investigating a breach of COVID-19 quarantine directions relating to the AFL accommodation arrangements at the Joondalup Resort.

AFL officials reported the breach after the partner of a Sydney Swans player was found in his room. His partner had arrived from New South Wales 14 days earlier and had completed her required self-quarantine period at another location.

The woman is alleged to have entered the Joondalup Resort in the early hours of yesterday morning, Friday 14 August 2020.

At the time, the Sydney Swans players and officials were subject of a 14-day quarantine period which had only commenced on 7 August 2020, when they arrived in Western Australia.

The AFL directions specify that only authorised persons are permitted to enter the Joondalup Resort during the quarantine period. The player’s partner is not an authorised person.

As a result of the circumstances established to date, the player’s partner was issued a further temporary quarantine direction which will be subject to ongoing review. The Sydney Swans player will remain in the quarantine hub.

WA Police Force will continue to work with the Department of Health and the AFL in relation to the ongoing management and assessment of the required quarantine arrangements for the Sydney Swans group.
