Prominent Queensland educator and disability advocate Sharon Boyce has been appointed as a member of the NDIS Independent Advisory Council (IAC).
Minister for Disability Services Coralee O’Rourke said she was thrilled that Ms Boyce had been appointed to the IAC by the Commonwealth Government.
“I’m proud to have nominated Ms Boyce as the Queensland representative for this important council,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“Ms Boyce is highly regarded and has many strings to her bow – as a published author, university lecturer and an executive on the board of Queenslanders with Disability Network.
“As Chair of the Queensland Disability Advisory Council, Ms Boyce provides me with independent advice on a range of issues impacting Queenslanders with disability and the broader community.
“Over the years, her advice has been invaluable and she has the skills, experience and knowledge to ensure Queensland’s interests are well represented in the IAC.
“I congratulate Ms Boyce on her appointment, and I look forward to continuing to work with her to advocate and improve outcomes for Queenslanders with disability.”
The 13 member IAC provides advice to the board of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) about the way the agency performs its functions in relation to the NDIS, support the independence and social and economic participation of people with disability and enables people with disability to exercise choice and control in the planning and delivery of their supports.
