Two south-west councils will share in $1.25 million through Round 4 of the Palaszczuk Government’s successful $295 million Building our Regions (BoR) fund.
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said driving the state’s regional economies will ensure Queensland’s ongoing prosperity.
“We’re investing $1 million to upgrade airside services at St George Industrial Estate, which will deliver five new lots for hangar development, a new hardstand area, an all-weather taxiway link and secure airside access for new tenants,” Mr Dick said.
“Balonne Shire Council will also contribute $65,000 for this crucial airport infrastructure that will help local agriculture operators export their products, while also allowing the community to be better supported during times of disaster response and recovery.
“Meanwhile, $250,000 from BoR will help Bulloo Shire Council build a new boardwalk for the iconic Burke and Wills Dig Tree site in Durham, with council contributing $135,000.
“Both these projects will have enduring economic outcomes for these important outback towns – creating around five jobs during construction while strengthening local business and tourism in the long-term.”
Round 4 of Building our Regions will see the Palaszczuk Government partner with 37 councils on 49 projects – work which will create an estimated 657 jobs.
Under previous rounds, the program has allocated $225 million to 174 critical infrastructure projects across the state, generating 1762 jobs and attracting additional investment of $353.5 million from councils and other organisations.
