Re-appeal for information after suspicious death, NSW

Police are re-appealling for information as they continue to investigate the suspected murder of a man in the Lake Illawarra region last year.

About 9.30pm on Monday 23 August 2021, emergency services were called to Thomas Street, Lake Illawarra, following reports the body of a man had been found inside a home.

The man has since been formally identified as 31-year-old Matthew Davis.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established Strike Force Sienna to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, which is being treated as suspicious.

Investigations are continuing with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, and detectives are appealing to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in Thomas Street and surrounds on the night of Monday 23 August 2021.

Detectives have now released CCTV of moments before and after the homicide. The vision depicts a white Holden Rodeo travelling in front of a dark-coloured sedan on Trumper Street, Lake Illawarra. The CCTV also captures three unidentified males walking south on King Street, Lake Illawarra, before they turn into Thomas Street.

One of the unidentified males can then be seen walking north, alone on King Street. He has been described as being of a large build, around 185cm-190cm tall, and walks with a pronounced limp.

Anyone who recognises any of the males in the CCTV – or anyone with additional CCTV, dashcam footage or information – is urged to contact Lake Illawarra Police on (02) 4232 5599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are continuing under Strike Force Sienna.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
