Following the recent announcement by the Prime MinisterScott Morrison, REIWA welcomes the clarification on auctions and home opens,which as of midnight 25 March 2020, will ceasefor large groups, however private appointmentswill still be permitted.
REIWA President Damian Collins saideveryone in the industry is coming together to work closely with the governmentto implement the necessary changes.
Overall REIWA and its members support these restrictionsas part of the real estate industrys contribution to help stop the spread of coronavirus, Mr Collins said.
During the last few weeks, agents have already adapted the way in which they operate as we shift intoan environment with far less contact, with many agentscurrentlyreducing or eliminating home opens.
REIWAunderstandsthat these changes need to take place for the health and safety of all West Australians,with thereal estate industryready to step up and play our part.
We do caution against a complete ban on real estate inspections. Shelter is one of the most basic of human needs and the industry can manage to minimise the risk of spreading the virus,while at the same time allowing buyers and tenants to find homes, Mr Collins said.
One-on-one individual appointments,coupled with theappropriatesafeguards as recommended by healthauthorities,willallow people who need a home, the chance to inspect and applyor buyaproperty.
With regardsto public auctions, these can still occur via telephone bidding or by using one of the many online auction platforms available.
