Recycling Centre Cash Seizure

Armadale Detectives have charged three people in relation to the seizure of cash that was found by staff members of a recycling centre in the southern suburbs in April 2021.

On Monday 12 April 2021 police were called to the southern suburbs recycling centre after a report was received that approximately $1 million cash had been located amongst the recycling material the previous week. Information received was that $50 and $100 notes appeared on one of the centre’s conveyer belts.

An investigation commenced and it was established the amount of cash was under $40,000. It was reported to police that staff had been encouraged to remain quiet about the discovery.

Several search warrants were executed in the metropolitan area and as a result of the investigation to date three staff members have been advised they are being charged by summons with ‘Possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property (cash)’, and will appear in court at a later date. Those being charged include:

– A 53-year-old woman from Balga (a Supervisor at the centre)

– A 24-year-old man from Greenmount

– A 22-year-old man from Nollamara

It is believed the majority of the cash taken by the staff members involved has been recovered.

The origin of the cash has not been established and the investigation is ongoing.
