  • Zip-line cables now installed and sky view platform currently under construction
  • Bridge activities expected to be complete and open to the public this summer
  • Thrill seekers can now register to be one of the first to ride the new Matagarup Bridge zip line when it opens this summer.

The zip-line ride will operate at an introductory cost of $59 per person and will include photos of the experience emailed directly to participants. The bridge climb will also be priced similarly and a virtual reality experience is under development that will be open to all ages.

Thrill-seekers will ‘zip’ at up to 100 km/h from the launch platform along 400-metre-long dual cables, extending from the western wishbone of the bridge structure, across the Swan River, to the landing platform located in scenic Burswood Park.

The bridge climb is a 314-step trek up the bridge’s main arch, ascending about 60 metres to the ‘sky view’ platform. Package experiences combining both the climb and zip-line will also be available.

Marketed as Matagarup Zip+Climb, the adventure activities will be operated by the Western Australian company Perth Bridge Climb and Zip Pty Ltd.

Local company Byte Construct installed the zip-line cables this week with the ‘sky-view’ and zip line platforms under construction within the bridge arches.

A second stage of activities is also under consideration, including an all-ages climbing frame located near the zip-line landing platform within Burswood Park to attract people to this scenic precinct.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Matagarup Bridge and Burswood Park are icons along the Swan River and, in a few short months, people will get a unique birds-eye view from the iconic structure as they zip along on Perth’s newest attraction.

“With the zip cables now installed, we’re on track to open to our first thrill seekers this summer.

“This is an exciting new attraction for Perth and a new activity for Western Australians to enjoy initially, and then for tourists into the future.”

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“These attractions will provide a new and exciting way to experience the beautiful Swan River, offering visitors and locals another activity to enjoy in Perth.

“Following the recent opening of the Swan’s first floating venue, this is another example of the State Government’s commitment to responsibly activate our natural assets so they can be better enjoyed by tourists and Western Australians alike.

“We are continuing to encourage people from all over the State to come into the city and enjoy a staycation through the Wander out Yonder campaign, and these additional attractions will help boost that experience for thrill-seekers.”
