Residents are encouraged to watch water usage due to extreme heat

Rockhampton Regional Council is asking the Region to be mindful of their water usage over the next few weeks as a result of the extreme heat conditions we are now experiencing.

Water and Environmental Councillor Donna Kirkland has stressed the importance of collective efforts in conserving water during this critical time.

“With the extreme heat and weather conditions we are asking residents to reduce their water usage where possible,” Cr Kirkland said.

“The extreme heat means more people are increasing their water usages and with the limited rain on the horizon this puts a strain on our water. It is important our production meets usage requirements.

“Council is also currently undertaking major upgrade works on the Glenmore Water Treatment plant. While these enhancements are crucial for the region’s water infrastructure and long term water supply, they are putting a strain on existing facilities and affecting production capacity.

“The combination of the impact of extreme weather conditions, and our major infrastructure upgrade project means we need to be extra vigilant about our water usage.

“We urge all residents to be water smart, limit unnecessary water usage, and use water only for essential needs.

“I want to emphasise this is not a cause for concern but something we want people to be mindful of.

“We ask residents to follow water conservation tips such as fixing leaks, using a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways, and shortening showers.

“Let’s come together as a community and make a difference.”

Water Saving Tips

  1. Fix leaks promptly
  2. Shorten your showers
  3. Don’t let the tap run while you’re brushing your teeth or washing your face.
  4. Make sure your dishwasher and washing machine are fully loaded before running them.
  5. Instead of hosing down driveways, sidewalks, or patios, use a broom.
