A number of residents were evacuated this morning after a fire broke out at a unit block in Merrylands.
Emergency services were called to the unit complex on Burford Street, about 1.25am (Saturday 30 November 2019), following reports of a fire.
On arrival, officers located a unit on the 12th floor well alight. Police assisted in the evacuation of the occupants who were attempting to extinguish the blaze.
Fire fighters attended extinguished the blaze, and there were no reports of injuries.
Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene and have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
Burford Street remains closed.
