Rethink your recycling habits

Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week is in its 25th year and we think that means it’s a perfect time to Rethink what you know about recycling.

To celebrate National Recycling Week (8-14 November) Mitchell Shire Council has organised a free online ‘Rethink Recycling’ virtual tour and trivia session with the Rethink Waste Education Centre on Tuesday 9 November at 7pm.

The 75-minute virtual session will allow residents to see where their kerbside recycling goes and what becomes of it after it leaves your kerbside.

You’ll be able to see how a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) separates recycling into material types ready for reprocessing by virtually stepping inside the Visy MRF to see the facility in action. You’ll witness conveyor belts, material-specific machines, massive trommels and hard-working manual sorters make light work of separating your kerbside recycling.

You’ll also have the chance to ask our experts any burning questions that you may have and then take part in a fun trivia challenge to put your new-found knowledge to the test and maybe even win a prize.

The Rethink Recycling online event is on Tuesday 9 November, from 7pm to 8.15pm. Places are limited, and you will need to register online below.

The virtual event was developed for the tri-council partnership of Mitchell, Murrrindindi and Strathbogie Councils. The initiative supports the Southern Goulburn Region Waste and Resource Recovery Education Strategy 2019-2021.

Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week, now in its 25th year, helps everybody to improve their recycling knowledge and build better recycling habits.

Whether that is by joining the Rethink Recycling online event, brushing up on your recycling knowledge or discovering new tricks to cut down on waste and improve recycling and reuse, it’s all about celebrating the important role recycling plays in our lives.

This year the focus of the week will be on the advancements that have been made in the recycling sector over the past 25 years and to raise awareness of the continued importance of recycling.
