Revitalised parks assets on Flinders Island

Nick Duigan, Minister for Parks

Flinders Island’s iconic Trousers Point Beach is now easier to access after the installation of new stairs.

Minister for Parks Nick Duigan said the recently completed stairs were part of a Rockliff Liberal Government election commitment to further support the island’s tourism industry.

“Flinders Island has some of the most pristine landscapes in Tasmania – and some of the most photogenic scenery,” Minister Duigan said.

“Providing access to these areas for visitors is very important for ensuring that these places can drive our regional tourism economy on Flinders Island.

“Flinders Island has a growing tourism economy, being driven by its beauty and remoteness, as well as its growing market of boutique tourism offerings.”

As part of the upgrades Fotheringate Bay stairs have also been completed, along with the North East River toilet refurbishment which is nearing completion.

Project planning is the current priority with surveys set to occur early next month at the NE River and Trousers Point campgrounds and the Emita/Allports day use area and campground. These surveys will assist in identifying improvements to access, parking, drainage, toilets and campground layout and levelling.

These projects are part of a $1.1 million investment toward improving camping and RV access on Flinders Island.

The Rockliff Liberal Government is doing what matters to Tasmanians by making these improvements to ensure Tasmania is the best place to live, work and visit.
