Rio Gold Medalist, Chloe Dalton re-commits through until 2021

The Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team have been bolstered ahead of their Gold Medal defence following the recommitment of Chloe Dalton through to the 2021 Olympic Games.

Originally re-joining the sport in April following a stint in AFLW, Dalton is known for her world-class kicking and defensive play and is the first player to re-contract to the national program following the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the cancellation of the 2019/20 Sevens World Series.

One of Australia’s greatest ever players on the HSBC Sevens World Series, Dalton’s performances during the Rio Olympic Games played a key role in their Gold Medal campaign, scoring two tries and kicking twelve conversions throughout the tournament.

Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens Head Coach, John Manenti said: “Chloe was a great addition to the squad back in April, and we’re delighted that she has decided to stay the course and continue through till the Games.

“Before she left in 2017, she was the Women’s Sevens Player of the Year, and her name is still on a lot of the World Series leader boards, which is a testament to her as an athlete.

“The new start date for the Games will be invaluable to both Chloe and the team, it allows us extra time to prepare and it also gives Chloe more time to earn her ticket on the plane.”

Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens player, Chloe Dalton said: “I’m really excited to be re-committing to Rugby Australia to continue to chase Olympic Gold in Tokyo next year.

“This year has thrown up its challenges, but I am really happy to be with such a strong group of women for 2021.

“I’d also like to acknowledge and thank Carlton who have been a fantastic support for me in chasing my goals in Tokyo.”
