Twenty new signs have been installed along the Wollondilly & Mulwaree River walking tracks, as part of a joint project between Rotary Club of Goulburn and Goulburn 2020.
The signs provide interesting information regarding the history of the area, and local sites along the walking track such as Rocky Hill War Memorial and Goulburn’s first brewery. The section of walkways along the Mulwaree River is 1.5km long, and joins with the link to the Joseph’s Gate subdivision.
“This signage project is a wonderful addition to the river walkway network, and a great example of community organisations who contribute so much to our region” said Mayor Peter Walker.
“Walkers, cyclists and runners will learn something new about our history, and for visitors to the region it adds a whole new dimension to the walkways and our beautiful open space.”
Goulburn Rotary Club Director Justin Kell said that the project has been a wonderful way for the organisation to contribute to the walking track network.
“It has been an excellent project to be involved with, with Rotary Club of Goulburn designing and coordinating installation of these historical signs.
This has been a game changer project by Goulburn Mulwaree Council bringing the Wollondilly and Mulwaree Rivers to the people. Goulburn is at the confluence of these rivers and only really now are our rivers are being truly appreciated by all people.”
Other sites featured along the river walkways are the Goulburn Golf Club, Fitzroy Flats, Goulburn’s oldest general cemetery, and the Anglican cemetery among others.
