RSPCA NSW’s Rescue Centre was officially opened today, Friday 2 February 2024, by NSW Premier the Hon Chris Minns MP, the Minster for Agriculture the Hon Tara Moriarty MLC, Member for Auburn Ms Lynda Voltz MP, Chief Animal Welfare Officer of the Department of Primary Industries Kim Filmer and RSPCA NSW CEO Steve Coleman.
The Rescue Centre has been jointly funded by the NSW Government and RSPCA NSW’s community of animal lovers, with the State Government committing $912,000 towards its establishment.
The purpose-built centre will act as a hub for coordinating RSPCA NSW’s state-wide disaster response efforts and will house vital equipment such as vehicles, horse floats, animal trailers and multiple inflatable tents that will allow us to increase our emergency response capacity.
“Today is a momentous day for RSPCA NSW, as we celebrate the opening of our brand-new Rescue Centre here in the heart of our Sydney Adoption and Education Centre, in Yagoona,” said RSPCA NSW CEO, Steve Coleman.
“In any emergency, preparedness is key. This centre is pivotal in? RSPCA NSW’s disaster relief strategy, ensuring that we can continue to build the resilience of our state when, not if, the next disaster strikes.”

?Throughout it all, RSPCA NSW stood shoulder-to-shoulder with local communities, offering support and care to both humans and animals, who lost so much.
“This new Rescue Centre in Yagoona will be a lifesaving operation, offering a lifeline to animals in the most challenging situations we can’t possibly imagine,” said NSW Premier, Chris Minns.

This milestone coincides with RSPCA NSW’s recent recruitment drive for a team of volunteers known as the RSPCA NSW Emergency Response Team. This team of dedicated and compassionate volunteers will play a crucial role in assisting and supporting animals and their pet guardians affected by bushfires and other emergencies in NSW.
“The NSW Government takes animal welfare seriously and our funding of the resources to make the new emergency centre fully operational is a strong indicator of that commitment,” said NSW Minister, Tara Moriarty.
“RSPCA NSW is a key partner in upholding our state’s animal welfare laws and this new centre and team will make a significant positive impact for animals impacted by natural disasters.??Those animals are usually livestock, horses, backyard chickens and goats, plus the dogs and cats. These animals are integral to our primary industries and part of our communities living in regional NSW.”
