School crossing service takes a break

Since the commencement of the school Term 2 we have been consulting with Bayside schools regarding their requirements for supervised crossings.

School attendance has dramatically reduced across all Bayside schools and the majority have advised that the crossing service is currently not required. This is due to the low numbers of students attending along with a different drop off and pick up process for parents.

As the safety of school students is paramount, we have also consulted with the Department of Transport and undertaken a risk assessment of school crossings.

Following this, we have mutually agreed with the schools that the crossing service is not required. As a result, from Monday 27 April, our School Crossing Supervisors will take leave until 8 May, 2020.

We are committed to ensuring the ongoing retention of our staff as well as the safety of Bayside school students and will be actively planning for the return of the service as schools reopen to full capacity in the future.

We will reassess the schools’ requirements following 11 May when the existing State Government Stage 3 restrictions are scheduled to expire.
