With restrictions lifting further in Western Australia, the City of Perth is planning to celebrate the start of school holidays with entertaining children’s events from 4 July.
Forrest Place and Elizabeth Quay will be bursting with amusement for the kids, including carnival rides, an expansive colourful maze and educational mask-making workshops.
“As restrictions continue to lift in Western Australia, the City is buzzing with new life and our school holiday events will only add to that vibrancy,” Chair Commissioner Andrew Hammond said.
“We want to rapidly shift our attention back to enticing visitors into the city, to help breathe life back into the CBD.”
From Saturday 4 to Friday 10 July, visitors can tackle the Jungle Maze challenge, while having a go at mask-making in Forrest Place. All activities are free, and visitors can go in the draw to win a PlayStation family gaming package when they sign up via Try Booking for maze entry.
Plus, Perth City Carnival is back on at Elizabeth Quay from Saturday 11 to Friday 17 July, with hourly sessions running from 10am to 4pm.
Tickets for the carnival are $10 for up to four people and can be booked via Try Booking. Each booking entitles attendees to a $10 gift card to spend at one of the many vendors at Elizabeth Quay or Yagan Square. All bookings automatically go in the draw to win an Xbox family gaming package.
During the first week of school holidays, Heritage Perth will hold educational workshops for children at the Perth Town Hall, including weaving, yarning archaeology and sustainability workshops.
On 7 July, prominent Whadjuk Nyoongar artist Sharyn Egan will teach children how to weave, binding meadow grass to sculpt original and fantastic creatures.
Similarly, on 8 July, Fiona Hook from Triskele Tree Cottage will present a hands-on workshop on The Art of Eco Dyeing, utilising crafting skills from thousands of years ago.
On 10 July, Aboriginal artist Justin Martin of Djurandi Dreaming will present cultural heritage art workshops, Yarning and Painting with Djurandi Dreaming. Participants will learn about the Nyoongar people, their language, local history, tools and dreamtime stories.
