The Tasmanian Government has allocated $10 million to the Department of Education for maintenance in Tasmanian Government schools to improve public facilities and mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.
The maintenance program will be priority based and includes fire services, roofing, electrical safety, switchboard upgrades, lighting upgrades, painting, flooring, asbestos removal lift maintenance and resurfacing services.
The Department has already assigned $2.8 million for the next three months with contractors having now commenced works at several schools.
With the delivery of these works occurring over the next 15 months the Department will ensure the funds are distributed equitably across all regions and local contractors will be employed to deliver the program.
