Screen Queensland Strengthens Executive Team

Belinda Burns

Dr Belinda Burns, a passionate advocate for the film industry and the arts with a strong strategic and creative background, has been appointed Head of Marketing and Communications for Screen Queensland, effective September 14, 2020.

“I am thrilled to be joining Screen Queensland and look forward to working with the team to leverage the great depth and diversity of film and TV talent our state has to offer,” Dr Burns said.

“Now, more than ever, Queensland is an ideal place to generate, develop and produce original and arresting content that the rest of the world wants to watch, and telling this story, both locally and internationally, will be an exciting part of my new role.”

Screen Queensland CEO Ms Kylie Munnich said Belinda will be a terrific addition to the team in a new role. “Belinda will be a major asset as we enhance our global reputation as a centre of film-making excellence and stay agile in this challenging age of COVID-19.”

Dr Burns has run her own film production company, developing digital content for companies and government departments. She holds an MA degree in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University College in the UK, and a PhD in Writing from The University of Queensland, where she has lectured extensively in creative writing, literature and film studies. She is also a published novelist and short fiction writer.

With more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and communications, in Australia and the UK, Dr Burns has held senior management positions both at creative agencies and in-house. As Director for the global PR network Citigate in London, she represented large financial corporations, and as General Manager for a social marketing consultancy within the Ogilvy group she led several award-winning federal and state government change campaigns.

Dr Burns joins Screen Queensland from Brisbane Girls Grammar School, where she held the role of Director of Communications and Engagement, in charge of brand, marketing, digital communications, events and admissions.

Ms Munnich has also confirmed two other executive appointments at Screen Queensland. Jo Dillon has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer and Dee Mundell to Chief Operating Officer.

“These changes will further strengthen our executive leadership team’s determination to stay future-focused on delivering our strategy for the Queensland screen industry,” Ms Munnich added.
