The Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) has released the latest bushfire outlook.
Across Central Australia, a high level of rainfall has resulted in increased fuel loads. While the additional rain seen over the past months has reduced the fire danger temporarily, these increased fuel loads will increase that danger in the coming months.
Southern District Officer Stephen Hunter said, “Now is not the time to become complacent and prescribed burning will begin throughout March and April. Expect to see crews out and about working near or by the roadside.
“Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service would like to remind the public that the central Australian bushfire season will run until April 2023, and is urging everyone to keep informed of Fire Danger Ratings and bushfire advice and warnings and be ready to implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.
“Firebreaks are one the best ways to protect yourself and your community. Ensure they are at least 4 meters wide and any vegetation within is below 50mm.
