Second correctional officer charged after contraband investigation at facility in Sydney’s north-west

Detectives have charged a second correctional officer as part of an ongoing investigation into the introduction of contraband into a correctional facility in Sydney’s north-west.

Earlier this year, detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force Bundawarrah to investigate reports of corrupt activity by a male correctional officer.

So far during the investigation, detectives have arrested seven men – including a 26-year-old male correctional officer – and two women.

All nine people remain before the courts.

As part of ongoing investigations, detectives arrested a 38-year-old man at a correctional facility in Sydney’s north west about 9am today (Thursday 12 November 2020).

He was taken to Riverstone Police Station and charged with holder of public office misconduct, agent corruptly receive benefit, supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), and unlawfully deliver or attempt to deliver anything to inmate.

Police will allege in court that the man, who is a correctional officer, was involved in trafficking contraband into the facility for financial benefits from the family members of inmates.

The Schofields man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Monday 11 January 20201.

Investigations under Strike Force Bundawarrah are continuing.

The man’s employment has been suspended.
