Second man faces court over armed robbery of taxi driver at Orange, NSW

A man will face court today and another remains in custody following investigations into the armed robbery of a taxi driver in the state’s Central West.

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday 30 October 2019, a 74-year-old taxi driver picked up three men from outside a store on Bathurst Road at Orange.

As the vehicle neared South Terrace, it is alleged the 19-year-old male passenger threatened the driver with a screwdriver and demanded money.

Police were told the second male, aged 18, placed the driver in a headlock while the 16-year-old stole other items from within the taxi, before all three fled down South Terrace.

Officers attached to Central West Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged on Tuesday (5 November 2019) and remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, police located a 19-year-old man at a Currong Crescent address yesterday (Thursday 7 November 2019).

He was arrested after a short foot pursuit and taken to Orange Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, use offensive weapon and possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail and is to appear before Orange Local Court today (Friday 8 November 2019).

Investigations continue.
