Seeking shared equity home loan providers

Michael Ferguson,Minister for State Development, Construction and Housing

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to increasing new affordable housing and improving housing assistance to Tasmanians in need.

We are improving HomeShare so it provides better products that will improve Tasmanian’s access to homeownership, including for those who live in regional and remote areas of the State and suitable social housing tenants to transition to home ownership.

Home loan providers nationally are being asked to help grow and promote HomeShare and offer more Tasmanians the opportunity of home ownership with a Request for Applications (RFA) released today.

Along with making it more accessible, we are also seeking arrangements that can offer a more competitive loan for the buyer.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has also invested an additional $10 million into HomeShare to assist at least an additional 100 households around the State.

This investment is on top of our $615 million into social housing, home affordability and homelessness initiatives delivering a record number of homes for those who need it.

HomeShare helps more people achieve home ownership by reducing the amount of time required to save for a deposit and reducing the ongoing costs of owning a home because the costs are shared with the Director of Housing.

HomeShare provides assistance to Tasmanians on low to moderate incomes who want to own their own homes. It works by reducing the cost of buying a house, as well as reducing the monthly cost of owning it.

Holders of an Australian credit licence are invited to submit an application to become an accredited home loan provider to HomeShare customers.
