Self-serve Containers for Change kiosks come to shopping centres

  • Self-serve ‘Containers for Change’ kiosks to be opened in Kingsway, Greenwood, and Whitfords shopping centres
  • Return points – the first of 20 planned – to be opened in the coming months
  • More than 2.6 billion containers recycled since October 2020

The Cook Government is celebrating the start of National Recycling Week in Western Australia, with the rollout of ‘Containers for Change’ self-serve kiosks across three shopping centres in metropolitan Perth.

Kingsway, Greenwood, and Whitfords shopping centres will be home to the first three of 20 kiosks, that will be opened in WA in the coming months.

The kiosks have been established to improve access to ‘Containers for Change’, with users able to return containers and redeem refunds as either cash, a bank transfer or charitable donation.

Access to the kiosks will be through the carpark of each shopping centre.

Western Australians have now recycled more than 2.6 billion containers since ‘Containers for Change’ was launched in October 2020.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

“We knew we needed to create ways to return containers that are convenient and accessible.

“Western Australians can now simply pack their containers along with their shopping bags and make a return while doing their weekly shop.

“This initiative will bring in a substantial number of containers into the scheme that may have otherwise gone to landfill.”
