Wednesday 5 August 2020: Landcare Australia welcomes an announcement by Victorian Senator Raff Ciccone and New South Wales Senator Perin Davey to co-convene the inaugural Parliamentary Friends of Landcare in Canberra.

In the announcement made during Landcare Week, Senator Davey and Senator Ciccone have called on their parliamentary colleagues to join with them in championing the work of Landcare and the beneficial impact it has on the environment.
Commending this tremendous acknowledgement of the tireless dedication of Landcare volunteers and groups around the country, who are working together to restore and protect the environment in their local community, Landcare Australia congratulates and fully supports this crucial endorsement.
“Landcare Australia congratulates Senator Davey and Senator Ciccone for this initiative and for encouraging their colleagues to become members of the Parliamentary Friends of Landcare,” said Doug Humann AM, Chair Landcare Australia.
“Their announcement comes during a special annual celebration where we honour the inspiring passion of the Landcare community working on conservation, and sustainable land management activities in their local area.
Landcare Australia’s CEO, Dr Shane Norrish added: “Landcare and landcarers in Australia will surely benefit from this initiative and we look forward to supporting Senator Davey and Senator Ciccone and their parliamentary colleagues who participate as Friends of Landcare.”
“Drought, bushfires and now Covid-19 have made more difficult and critical our task of restoring health to our landscape and providing for a long term sustainable future. So landcare in Australia and a cohesive landcare movement is now more important than ever to the future of our natural assets and people.”
