Seven cases of alleged ill-treatment of an animal before courts this June

Monday 6 June: A long-running trial is expected to finalise in the Christies Beach Magistrates court involving a male defendant from the western suburbs who is charged with failing to ensure a dog with multiple health issues received veterinary care. The elderly dog remains in RSPCA care.

Thursday 16 June: A female defendant from the northern suburbs is due back in the Elizabeth Magistrates court for sentencing on 10 charges of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to four horses and one pony found in emaciated condition and with no access to water. Three horses remain in RSPCA care, and the fourth horse was returned to its owner (who is not the defendant). The pony was rehomed after he was surrendered by the defendant.

Thursday 16 June: A female defendant from the northern suburbs is due to return to the Elizabeth Magistrates court to face charges relating to an emaciated dog found in squalid conditions and with no access to water, a second dog and a cat also being kept in squalid conditions without access to water and a guinea pig found confined inside a filthy small cage.

Friday 17 June: Two female defendants from a regional town north of Adelaide are due to return to the Adelaide Magistrates Court to face cruelty charges relating to a large number of dogs, cats, native animals and birds found in poor condition and being kept in squalid conditions. Most of the animals recovered and were rehomed after the defendants surrendered them.

Tuesday 21 June: A female defendant from Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs will face the Elizabeth Magistrates court for the first time to face charges relating to two emaciated dogs seized by RSPCA inspectors in August 2021. Both dogs remain in RSPCA care.

Tuesday 21 June: A male and female defendant from Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs are facing 20 charges of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to more than 60 animals, including 17 cats and a mix of rabbits, pigeons, cockatoos, lorikeets, corellas, magpies, galahs, possums, a water dragon lizard, puppies, canaries, a duck and an owl. All were allegedly being kept in unsanitary and squalid conditions. The defendants are due to return to the Elizabeth Magistrates Court this month. The animal rescue charity that the couple ran is facing the same charges.

Wednesday 29 June: A male defendant from the northern suburbs will face court for the first time charged with failing to provide appropriate and adequate food to a dog located in emaciated condition. The dog was seized by RSPCA inspectors and has since been rehomed.
