All Gold Coast beaches have reopened today, but lifeguards warn there is still a strong current and a 1.5 m swell.

Always swim between the flags and heed the direction of lifeguards and life savers.

Operation Clean Up

  • From Wednesday 17 January Operation Clean Up household kerbside collection is scheduled to commence in Biggera Waters, Coombabah, Hollywell, Hope Island, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay and Upper Coomera.
  • Visit the webpage to find out information about waste disposal, kerbside clean up and if we will be in your street.
  • If your street is not included in the one-off kerbside collection or you are a rural property over 5000sqm, community group or sporting group and you require assistance to remove storm related green waste and storm debris, register on the Operation Clean Up website.
  • We are working with all our partners in this operation including SES, Disaster Relief Australia, Rural Fire Brigades, the Australian Defence Force along with other volunteers and service contractors.
  • We ask that only those who are storm affected take advantage of services to allow our teams to focus on those most in need.
  • When putting your storm debris or green waste out please don’t put any material on top of electricity boxes or water meters. This can cause damage to, or prevent assistance for, critical power and water services.
  • In addition to the crews working on the household kerbside clean up, we also have over 20 crews out across the city doing roadside clean up. While you may not see those locations on the map, our crews are working tirelessly to clean up the city.
  • Safety remains our number one priority and all operations are weather dependent.

Park maintenance

  • The recent rain and storms have meant the ground is taking longer than usual to dry out. Together with the storm clean up, our park maintenance including mowing has been delayed.
  • Mowing around debris in parks helps dry the grounds faster, providing access to clear fallen trees.
  • Our crews are working hard to mow spaces as they become safe to do so but please be aware delays may be experienced.
  • We ask for patience at this time.
Usual waste collections
  • Waste collection services are operating from 5am.
  • Please put your bin out kerbside the night before your collection day.
  • Waste and recycling centres will return to usual operating hours from Monday 15 January.

Community recovery hubs

  • Community recovery hubs are places where residents experiencing hardship can apply for grants and receive emotional and wellbeing support.
