Shellharbour Civic Centre shines spotlight on local artists

Shellharbour City Council is calling for local artists, artist groups or collectives to come and exhibit their work at the Shellharbour Civic Centre as part of its Artist of the Month Exhibition Program.

Works will be displayed in a variety of spaces within the Civic Centre and can include painting sculpture, or even installation.

The public will can view the artworks seven days a week during the Civic Centre’s opening hours.

Artists will also have the opportunity to host an artist talk, live demonstration, or creative workshop.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the new program would shine a spotlight on local artists.

“The program aims to highlight established and emerging local artists to increase their community profile, as well as provide future selling and networking opportunities,” Cr Saliba said.

“Hundreds of staff and visitors enter the Civic Centre each day and the exhibition is an exciting way to provide passers-by with a touch of colour to brighten their day,” she said.

The artworks currently on display are by Kiama-based artist Olivia Dean. Olivia began painting at age four with her Pop, who was an avid landscape painter.

Her artworks reflect her current and growing views of the beauty of the ever-changing ocean.

Olivia is hosting learn to drawn and paint workshops on Saturday 5 December as part of the Shellharbour City Youth Market.

The Youth Market will be held from 11 am to 2 pm and includes a diverse range of stalls and entertainment for all ages to enjoy.
