Shining light on arts and culture

An incredible festival of light, dance and culture is making its way to Perth this winter.

This July, the City of Perth’s Perth By Light will feature an incredible program of events, installations and performances.

Shining the light on local and community-led arts and cultural events, the festival celebrates Perth’s rich cultural and artistic talent, showcasing the city in all its wintertime glory.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said he was proud to present an authentic and cultural program suitable for people of all ages.

“With a focus on community, Aboriginal culture, music and light, there is something for everyone this winter in Perth and I invite you to rug up, head out and enjoy all that this amazing city has to offer,” he said.

“I encourage you to discover something new, to see Perth in a new light and experience countless experiences as well as never before seen light-themed performances and activities.”

The City of Perth has partnered with Artrage, the producer of FRINGE WORLD, for one of the festival’s signature events – ‘We Can Dance.’

The free Australian premiere by Canadian luminaries Daily Tous les Jours encourages visitors to get their body moving in ways they never thought would be possible.

From London’s Lumiere Festival (pictured) and Beijing’s Solana Light Festival also comes Janet Echelman’s stunning light installation – 1.8 – in Perth’s iconic Supreme Court Gardens.

Replicating the pattern created by a significant earthquake in 2011, 1.8 is an impressive, installation by day and features a custom projected light show at night, freefor all attending.

As part of Perth by Light and NAIDOC Week, Bindaran will capture the hearts and minds of Perth as she makes her way through the city streets in July.

Street art murals in three locations around the City will also light up with creative projections playing on the existing artwork to create eye-catching visual spectacles.

As part of Perth by Light, the City of Perth has partnered with LITT, an Australian community focused app. Visitors can explore the city by visiting the amazing experiences on offer, downloading the LITT app and scoring big with hundreds of giveaways.
