Shipping forum at Rawson Hall

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

You made it clear to me on my first visit in July the wide-ranging impacts of shipping and freight on every aspect of your economy and community life.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at Rawson Hall on 14 November to hear your views on Norfolk Island’s long-term shipping needs.

The open community forum will commence from 5.30pm and conclude by 7pm (90mins), so please plan to come along and contribute your experience and knowledge to our dialogue on this critical issue.

In the lead-up to the forum, my Department is running a Have Your Say written submission process to inform our conversation on the night.

At the forum, I will provide information on what you have told us so far through the Have Your Say and we will then have a broad discussion and Q&A.

The success of future long-term shipping initiatives and Government support for sustainable solutions depends on us being informed by the needs, knowledge and experience of the community.

This is a key opportunity to share the expertise in shipping and freight which Norfolk Islanders have and outline what is important to you in freight services.

A summary of the issues raised by the Norfolk Island community, including from the Have Your Say process and the community forum, will then be published later this year.

These engagement initiatives are in line with my commitment to you that the Government and my Department would work more closely with Norfolk Island community members on shipping solutions.

Have Your Say submissions on shipping and freight can be made until Tuesday, 8 November 2022. Further information on what we’d like to hear from you and the submission process is available at https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/have-your-say/norfolk-island-long-term-shipping-needs
